"The Blacklist: Redemption" - The Spin-off Has Officially Been Ordered!

... and it has a name. I, for one, was getting weary of typing "The Spin-off". Thanks to Tabasko for getting the scoop early today before I even got out of bed (it's a Saturday, so what?) The series is expected to air midseason. Apparently, negotiations lasted late into the night. I'm sure it helped that the pilot's ratings were up 8% in the 18-49 demographic!

Update:  The Blacklist will return in the fall (undisclosed date) with a move to Thursdays at 10pm. According to Variety Magazine, "And on Thursdays, NBC has opted to move The Blacklist back an hour, to 10 p.m., in order to schedule Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med at 9 p.m. Greenblatt said the switch will allow Blacklist to have a solid lead-in (assuming Med continues to do well on its new night)."

Regarding the spin-off, I have equally big news for those of us who need the support of our fellow addicts ...

Within minutes of finding out the spin-off name,
I snapped up the internet domain www.RedemptionSupportGroup.com
as well as the Blogger site
"Redemption Support Group".

We decided not to put Blacklist in the name because it was too darn long. We have been waiting and monitoring the web day and night for weeks so that as soon as the name was announced, we could grab our sister site's domain name. The Redemption blog and discussion forum will operate identically to BSG and will be connected with a link to make it as simple as clicking to another page.

Who knows what kind of folks will hit upon our site with a name like this???

A few more details about The Blacklist: Redemption

Undercover operative Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) joins forces with Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen), the brilliant and cunning chief of Grey Matters, a covert mercenary organization that solves problems governments don’t dare touch. Their relationship resembles that between Reddington and Liz on the mothership series. While on the hunt for Liz’s attacker,

Tom secretly discovered that Scottie is actually his biological mother. Now, as they team up to employ their unique skills and resources in a dangerous world of deadly criminals, Tom begins his own covert mission to find out more about his shadowy past.

In addition to Janssen and Eggold, the cast of the spinoff series includes EGG-y Gath-EGG-y (Edi Gathegi) as Matias Solomon, and Tawny Cypress as Nez Rowan.  The four actors had great chemistry working as a team in the fast paced, dynamic backdoor pilot this past Thursday night in the Alexander Kirk episode.

Great news, Chompstick! Should be a gas!

Wow! Great job on the domain names! You have to be quick to get those things! Looking forward to seeing what happens on the new show and the new site. I have a feeling one of the pages may be called "Where's Howard?"

Iowa Watcher said...

Cool! Awesome news. I'm glad they didn't drag out the decision.

Tabasko said...

Honey West #2: LOLOL!!!!!!! Hahahahahaha. Honestly, I think I may be putting that in a t-shirt!! That should be the 1st page!

Lake Girl said...

"Where's Howard" t-shirts would be a gas! XD

Charmed said...

Congratulations on fast work, Chompstick.

DZ731 said...

Wow! Chomps and Tabasko jumped right on that news. Congratulations on the new addition!

Chompstick said...

And Charmed. She's an equal, invaluable part of everything we do, and was fully a part of this too.

Kodiak said...

Cool! Nice article, Chompstick. I was thinking the same as you, that earlier rumours were just that.

Honey West #2 - That's my best laugh of the day! HAHA!

Tabs #4 - Sign me up for one (free) one of those.

Chompstick #8 - Good job by all 3 of you.

Great news for all involved in the spin off. And chopstick: great news, jumping on the domain name. You got there first!

James Cherry said...

So is Hudson spinning off with Tom? Or is he still hidden away in a secret doghouse somewhere?

Chompstick said...

Hmm, that is an interesting question. There have been at least 5 different Hudsons to appear on screen, so one could go with Tom and one could stay with Liz, although neither of them deserves or knows how to care for a dog. My recommendation would be for all Hudsons to live with Aram, or maybe one with Harold and Charlene.

Not surprised at the time change. TBL was on at 10 PM when it was on Mondays and I've always thought it was a bit bloody for 9 PM, to be honest. But then I don't watch a lot of other shows in primetime so they could be just as bloody for all I know, like Hawaii Five-O is pretty violent for 8 PM. Yeah yeah, I know, in our current age of violent shoot-em-up computer games, most TV is pretty mild by comparison.

Eastcoast said...

Leave it to TPTB

Red-emption, lol

lara1 said...

Eastcoast - Red-emption. Good catch. LOL!

Kodiak said...

Good to have that confirmed!

Honey West, I agree. I wondered if the nature of the show would change from 10PM to 9, but it never did.

Iowa Watcher said...

I'm glad it's on later. It will come on at 9 pm out here (Central time zone) which is loads better than 8 pm. There are still a lot of youngsters watching TV at that hour.

Chompstick said...

Red-emption! I never would have caught that. Good job, eastcoast!!

BL Mom said...

Oh, very nice! I like the 10PM idea. Glad to have this all worked out with the scheduling. Thank goodness the January 2017 was just a rumor. Good job, BSG 3!

I am looking forward to seeing where TBL goes now that the Spin-Off is decided.

BL Mom said...

Oh, Honey West #2: Lol!

Chompstick said...

Where in the world is Howard Sandiego?

Tabasko said...

Hahaha. I'm gonna wait for NBC's next "Chicago" spin-off.

"Chicago: Howard"

Chompstick said...

LOL!

Chicago: Hudson
"The canine with more disguises than Tom Bond blows into the windy city to search for Howard among the FD, PD, and Med."

Lake Girl said...

Chomps #23, I would watch that show! Lol

Tabasko said...

Yes! And in fact, I will suggest a whole lineup for NBC for a night of their choosing (not Thursday)

Chicago: Hudson
Chicago: Howard
Chicago: Chicago (because we all know that's coming someday.)

Ryan Eggold and Famke Janssen on "Today" today.

There will be some connection in the stories between both shows.

We are all happy about the schedule so far and where the TBL goes, with the spin-off. It's going to be exciting!
Thanks for our new nickname -------> BSG 3.

I would set my DVR for all those cute titled Chicago / TBL spin-offs. You've got to love those ideas!

Although those contest essays of y'all's really should be produced and filmed. Those were some great ideas that should be utilized!

Honey West said...

Thanks for the Today link, Tabasko # 27! I missed that one! I wonder why they didn't interview JS, he was there, too according to the BL FB page.

fangirl said...

Brilliant idea to get the domains!!!!

"RED"-emption -- that's so perfect.

Great thinking everybody!!!

eastcoast said...

Thank you # 15 lara1 and #18 Chompstick,

Kodiak said...

#21 - 25 - lol xD

Tabs #26 - Thanks. I hope it doesn't get too confusing.

Tabasko said...

Honey West #28: Yeah, good question! I see it on BL's Twitter he was there, looking very dapper!

There is also a cute photo of Harry Lennix, Mozhan, and Diego

lara1 said...

Tabasco 26 and 32: thank you.

I guess this means we will all need to watch both shows or become hopelessly lost! haha

Kodiak 31: ditto. It could get confusing. Unless they planned to shoehorn the "Redmeption" stories into the original Blacklist anyway (though there probably wouldn't have been enough room for all of it!). But yes it could get confusing running two parallel, related stories.

Honey West said...

Thanks again, Tabasko #32! There was something else I saw where JS is talking to Hoda and Kathie Lee. I guess it means watching the entertainment shows tonight. Or maybe they will show the JS interview another time? If it was an interview, that is.
Now where was that?

Honey West said...

Okay, you Chicago people. I hope this link works, because apparently Jimmy Fallon had a sign that had a bunch of "new" Chicago spinoffs for next Fall, including Chicago Grocery and Chicago Garbage.

OH MY WORD!!!

Honey West, I am laughing so hard, there are seriously tears pouring out of my eyes!!!!!! I can't breathe!

Bwahahahahahahaha! Chicago: Fro-Yo????? HA!!! Oh, I wish I had thought of that. I bet he would enjoy Chicago: Chicago!

I am glad someone else besides me finds that Chicago stuff funny!

Thanks for posting THAT!

Honey West said...

You are most welcome, Tabasko #36!
I wish I'd known they would be live-streaming that NBC upfront thing this morning. But I don't know if they streamed any of the "blue carpet" or just the network-y stuff.

Lake Girl said...

Honey West #35, that is too funny XD. Tabs, I think your right about him liKing Chicago: Chicago!

NBC Varies Order Sizes For New Series

More Blacklist: Redemption news. It is 8 episodes. I think it will probably air during a BL hiatus.

Rori said...

Great job with the information, Chompstick AND y'all hopping on those domain names. Je suis tres impressed.

I really liked episode 22 and could totally follow Ryan E. around to see what glasses he'll don next!

I feel woefully ignorant with the "Chicago" comments, because I actually know little about tv shows other than the few I watch (and none actually on a tv). BUT they made me laugh anyways...because you all knew what/why/how it was an amusing string.

Ines said...

Good job Chompstick!!

LOL to all of you! HW that was seriously funny, thank you for that!

Tabasko said...

Rori #40: Ha!

Oh, NBC has a strong penchant for spinning off their "Chicago" shows one from the other; "Chicago: Med", "Chicago: Fire", "Chicago: PD", etc. Now the Blacklist is pairing up with "Chicago: Justice" on the Thursday schedule and I joked a little about them naming the new spinoff "Chicago: Blacklist" due to their love of it, and it went from there.

I don't know why, but I find all the Chicago shows funny! And so does Jimmy Fallon, LOL!

I've never even seen one of the Chicago shows, oddly enough! I don't watch that much TV these days myself!

Charmed said...

Tabasko
I love the Chicago spin-off names. The current shows, Fire, P.D. and Med utilize actors for all three series and recently had a mini episode including actors from the upcoming Chicago: Justice. Funnily enough, to me, they also have cross-overs of Chicago: P.D. and Law and Order: SVU. Just imagine if we become bored this summer, we could work on spin-off and cross-overs options.

Not much TV, Tabasko? I bet you're going to be missing "The Night Manager" starring Hugh Laurie and Tom (hot) Hiddleston real soon!
Is anyone else watching?

Tabasko said...

Yes, Charmed, I surely will! It is only 6 episodes, so a low commitment for me! But, it's a great watch for anyone looking for a well-written John LeCarre series. Really getting good!

The woman who plays the lead investigator within MI6 is really great. A superb character.

And there is eye candy, lol.

BL Mom said...

Charmed #43, I have been watching it. It is a good one for Tuesday night, although it goes a little late!

Do you and Tabs like Tom Hiddleston? He is handsome. Tabs, Olivia Colman has been superb. That is an excellent character. It is a great adaptation of the book, Tom Hollander as well. I think they acted together on another BBC show. Tom Hiddleston was very good on "Wallander" if anyone liked that.

He has been rumored to be the new James Bond.
