With Season 4 approaching, we are creating a new page to consolidate all of the newsworthy links to The Blacklist articles, interviews, sneak peaks, and more that our BSG members provide. Rather than posting a link on other topic pages, post it here in the comments where it can be easily referenced and archived. You can discuss the links here or on any other page. I will regularly highlight one or two links on the top of the page that I think are of particular interest or importance. Additionally, some of your links might light a spark under me to write a front page blog article.

Links to spoilers should remain on Le Nouveau Spoiler Page so that they stay together.

If you have an interest in learning how to post a hyperlink that can be directly clicked on, there is a tutorial on the FAQ page.

Who is Reddington? ‘The Blacklist’ creator Jon Bokenkamp teases the truth
8/4/16      Digital Trends.      ~ Courtesy of Honey West

An interview with Jon Bokenkamp with some atypical questions. Very informative.

Digital Trends: So, just to confirm what you're saying - no matter what season winds up being the last season of The Blacklist, you already know where you're going to end up?

Bokenkamp: No matter how long were on? I have in my heart - and James shares it, and John Eisendrath, and the people in the writer's room do too - that we have a story, and it's one we're sticking to.

You figure out your destination, you find a couple of towns you're going to stop in along the way, you look at the map and study it, and then you throw it away. You still know exactly where you're going, and you know what marks to hit along the way. That's true for each season, and that's true for the series. At times, it adjusts slightly, but the truth of who Reddington is guides us in every single episode. It also makes writing the episodes incredibly difficult, but it is our guide.

"Never trust a criminal ... until you have to," is the official motto of The Blacklist ... but the real lesson is "never trust the government, even if you have to."

Just found this article about James Spader.

Honey West said...

Marie #8, yes, been following that story for a couple of weeks. Saw it while searching for when the show would get back to shooting. I figured they weren't back to work yet when that story was posted because JS hadn't gotten his hair cut yet. Oh, the little clues we seek out. Then a week later they announced shooting would start. Kind of like Megan Boone's little clapper board thing you can see it says episode 4.01 in the corner.

Honey West #11 - thank you! Those are quite colorful. I can now see how the colors would help a lot in making the different sets of revisions clear.

Read the article you posted above as well. Megan with blonde hair again...? I recently caught another recent photo of what I think was her, with blonde hair also. Hmmm

More Blacklist filming info the past two days:

https://alyblacklist.tumblr.com/post/148267441131/tomorrow-tuesday-august-1-2-the-blacklist

Could this be the "house by the water"? probably not, but its "a" house by the water...one of many in the series...

For those not familiar, Centre Island is comprised of several properties, and is a community located on the North Shore of Long Island near to Oyster Bay. Many of the houses overlook the water of Long Island Sound. (That's where the location is, no idea what the location is meant to represent on the show.)

lara1 said...

Lotte Verbeek posted on Twitter earlier today a photo of her feet where she is lounging with a tablet that shows the Blacklist. The background is trees. Does this mean that she is filming with the cast on episode 4.02 in Centre Island? If so, maybe it is the "house by the water" after all. The guy who plays Kirk's hitman (Raul Trujillo) posted a pic on his account that looks like he is in a hammock on set. interesting all around!

I don't think we'll see any fan photos to confirm any of this, due to the filming location site being fairly inaccessible. but it looks like the first two episodes will be very exciting and jam packed!

lara1 said...

More filmng info - on Megan's twitter this afternoon. From the picture and caption, looks like she is among the actors filming in and around Centre Island….i will try to post the live links from now on, got to read on how to do that…..

Honey West said...

Thanks, lara1 #15! I haven't even gotten to searching for anything today yet. Beautiful "office". :-)
And yes, I agree, that is probably the "house by the water". Maybe that means we will be getting some Red/Kirk backstory in 4.01 or 4.02 more likely. I suspect someone maybe is going to tell his side of the story, probably to Liz. Whatever they do, I think season four is shaping up to be a wild ride.

lara1 said...

Honey West - yes, I think so too. Hopefully not too much - but not too many more questions either - LOL!!

It was a wonderful day for filming today by the water, if that's what was happening. And its a beautiful place - have spent time very near there. If so, I'm happy for the cast. It was a perfect summer's day - sunny and warm but the intense heat of last week has fallen back along with the humidity, with a slight breeze.

Of course, if you happen to be on vacation like I am, its nice as well! LOL!

One pic has Liz seated on the bench of a light colored piano. No, I'm not usually piano obssessed but either the writers and producers really like pianos as props, or there is a meaning. So many front and center shots!

By the way, I do enjoy reading your observations in your re-watch, it's so interesting to get someone else's perspective.

The Blacklist Exposed podcast has released a sort of primer for Season 4 including predictions, answers to questions from listeners etc. It says they spoke to Bokenkamp also but its not clear to me if that is rolled into this as well - trying to navigate a small screen!

I haven't listened yet but attach the link in case anyone is interested as I may not get to it for a couple of days.

I wonder if they discuss the piano! LOL!!! :-)

ok, I got a better look at the detail from the podcast summary. The thing with Bokenkamp is evidently part of a special called Behind the Blacklist Season 4 which is meant to be shown on TV stations. This may be outside the US only, its not clear as it says its part of their international marketing campaign. So it may be aimed at viewers outside the US

FYI - The Blacklist Exposed podcast did an interview with Megan. I haven't listened to it yet but I heard them reference it and it sounds like it may be good.

lara1 said...

I had a chance to listen to the Megan Boone interview today. It runs for just over an hour. Its as much about, if not more about, Megan, her thoughts/views as much as about Liz and the Blacklist. I really enjoyed listening to it.

I was able to be in the audience and saw James Spader on the Seth Meyers show tonight! I was extremely fortunate to have got a ticket - whenever I've tried stuff like that in the past, it has never worked out, so I feel doubly fortunate.

He told a lovely story about his father. Worth watching, I think.

lara1 said...

Honey West #60 - I just read the interview. I agree it was good - more substantive with him than most of what we've seen recently.

And thanks again for posting last week about James Spader being on Seth Meyers tonight. In part because of your posting, I was able to move some stuff around and try for a ticket, and ultimately, got into the audience. :) (jumping up and down smiling!!!)

lara1 - Good for you in getting a ticket for the Seth Meyers show. I can't stay up that late to watch, so I hope it's on the Internet somewhere tomorrow.

Honey West said...

Oh, that is excellent, lara1 #61-62!!! So glad you were able to get a ticket this time! And if I helped at all, then that is just wonderful! Did you wave at the camera anytime? Make a sign that said "TBSG Rules!"? LOL! I will stay up to watch and will record it, too.

Don't forget JS is also scheduled for Today's Take on Thursday. 10 AM. Can you get a ticket for that, too?
:-D

2 more days!!! Of course now that they are going to 10PM that means I will be watching way behind most of you out here on the West Coast. I will have to really fight the urge to check online beforehand!

lara1 said...

Thanks DZ371 and Honey West!

Honey West - sadly I don't think I was on camera at all - I was all the way in the back, sitting in the dark!
Nearly all of the audience was unlit after the very beginning of the show.....

I only thought of doing a sign once I was there, LOL! But I doubt it would have been seen owing to where I was sitting..... Still I didn't mind!

Thanks for the reminder of Today - you can't get tickets but I'll probably wander onto the plaza to see what's happening. It's a bit chaotic and I'm not sure but I don't think they allow you into the studio - I will try to press my face up against the glass from outside, haha.

And I should modify my comment above about thinking the show is worth watching - James Spader is always worth watching, of course!!! But I did really especially enjoy this particular interview, and the show.

Honey West said...

My takeaways from Today's Take: for every answer we get there will be two new questions; the show is incredibly complicated, not just for us viewers, but even more so for the production team; James Spader and Al Roker have the same hairstyle which fuels their love of hats.
They showed the same clip used on Fallon but cut just before Red shoots the guy. Spader made the comment about how Red doesn't seem to be up to date on DVDs having replaced cassettes. Before the interview Billy Bush said he was going to try to pry a few secrets and Spader chuckled and said good luck with that. Referring to the show's complexity, Spader mentioned that while shooting last night they realized that there was a mistake that would have compromised a previous scene's integrity. They re always painting themselves into corners and having to climb the walls and across the ceilings to get out of it. But it keeps things interesting.

lara1 said...

Honey West #67 - thanks for providing the recap from the Today interview. I haven't actually watched it yet. And I did not go down to NBC this morning as a friend told me that once they move inside at 9:00+ for the interviews and features, they lower an opaque black shade on all the windows of the studio. No one outside can see in, but the people in the studio can see out. I hope to catch the Today spot online before tonight.

And thanks for your warm wishes! I like to think that my good fortune this week is at least in part due to all of the good karma generated by everyone in TBSG for each other! Thoughtful, respectful, supportive commentary always! Love you all! :)

Good news on ratings for the premiere. courtesy AlyBlacklist. There's also a link within her page to the full article if anyone wants that too. I think its very good news especially considering the competition from football for same night viewing.

https://alyblacklist.tumblr.com/post/151014434496/ratings-for-401

Honey West said...

Thanks, lara1, haven't read the article yet, but the initial ratings showed them down about 17%. I guess they picked up as people watched later. Yeah, football kills the ratings for most shows the same night.

lara1 said...

Hi Honey West. yeah I heard that 17% also :( But then I found another article that set out the ratings for everything on network television last thurs from 7:30-11Pm I think. As I recall, every single show was down by significant - double digit - percentages in both total audience and in each demographic. But I think the Blacklist did better than many i.e. a bunch of other shows were down by larger percentages. Which is better news I think.

Its interesting. I know several people who never even watch shows the night they are broadcast. they dvr or look at ONDemand or through an app, where they can watch whenever they want or even wherever they want. I wonder if over time the "night of" ratings will take on less and less meaning. Time will tell, I guess!

Honey West said...

"No, I don't." Well, I think there's a ways to go to mend this relationship.
Also, when she says that Kirk says he's her father, Red doesn't say one way or the other, just goes on to the next thought. Much like he has always done, ignoring her statement/question. But Megan did say we will know the "parental situation" this year. They didn't say "paternal", just "parental". LOL!

Nice EW recap on episode 3. Its light and fun to read.

lara1 #94, I just love Jodi Walker's recaps!

Here is the link to spoilertv's photos from 4.05, The Lindquist Concern.

http://www.spoilertv.com/2016/09/the-blacklist-episode-405-lindquist.html

Tonight we had Red meeting in one of his favorite places, a cemetery. In 4.05 he's meeting in another favorite location, a church. Note the photo where Red is seated at a church organ either playing it or tinkering with it. Maybe it has a broken key? ;-)

Honey West said...

And the globaltv promo for "Gaia"

http://nancyjocom.tumblr.com/post/151453703461/the-blacklist-global-promo-for-ep-304-gaia

Oh my! Kirk has maybe six months to live?? At least this story arc will have an expiration date, I suppose.

Tabasko said...

Honey West #96: Right. As I recall, when they announcef Ulrich Thomsen's guest role, it said something like through episode 7 or 8 of Season 3.

lara1 said...

Honey West # 95 - thanks! Finally we see Red playing a keyboard instrument - maybe the writers have been listening to my comments about how he never plays, and only just plucked a few notes in Cape May (just joking, LOL!!).

The church - they are having some beautifully lit scenes in this season.

But - is that Dembe possibly having words with Red in that second photo? Well it is a spoiler so may be pointing there but not actually be that. hmmmm

Honey West said...

That's right, Tabasko #97, I had forgotten how long they were planning for him. It's kind of too bad because I like having a "villain" who seems to be an equal to Red. And Thomsen is good.

Honey West #99: Agreed. He is good....and very creepy. I think the creepiest so far, even more than Tom Connolly, the last person to deep creep me out on TBL.

I imagine they will have the next villian in the pipeline soon, LOL.

Fascinating interview with Kurt Kuenne, director of the 5th episode. gives you a very good idea of what goes into producing and directing an episode. You may remember that he made the documentary about Zachary, and his music was chosen I believe as the piano music Dom plays out at the end of Artax.
