Dembe at Work

Okay, I have to stop at the dry cleaner, the grocery store….should I make the fettuccine carbonara tonight or the manicotti?....hmm, these pants are getting a little snug, I need to hit the gym a little more frequently...I wonder what Diego is doing tonight, maybe we could check out that new disco...

"What? Stand by the car and grimace?"
... I swear, could this job be any more boring?… Grimace... grimace...yeah, I like that word… I wonder how much wood a woodchuck could chuck…

Jane, thanks for the spoilers tonight! This second one I'm going to relocate to the Online Links page for things like articles and interviews. It's a great interview with Ryan Eggold!

Jane's spoiler link looks like the same scene that showed Red sitting at the table pointing a gun at Liz. I believe it was the photos of the Berlin episode. So now we know he doesn't shoot her right? :-)

Jane, I know if Red killed Liz he wouldn't have a tv show next year silly. LOL! That is why I put the smiley face.

I had thought maybe he was going to fake shooting her to make Berlin and Tom think she was dead. But the newest pictures put the kabash to that huh?

I have three more hours to wait. I hope someone from the east coast will post before then.

The first chance you get check out the Beyond the Blacklist for this episode. Multiple FBI team members bite the dust next week!

Fluffy said...

The exact terminology that John Eisendrath uses is that the bad guys will be going after the FBI task force "and will be successful in killing some or a number of them."

This is right after Jon Bokenkamp describes the episode as being about "carnage, wreckage and doom."

No laugh track next week!

I can open this spoiler from this local newspaper. It has CHANGED since this morning. This morning the local actor was handcuffed to the person who plays Berlin and is also told the name. See if you can open this:

Y'all have to tell me what to do. I clicked on the newspaper link posted on the WSJ blog this morning and there was a photo of the hometown guy appearing in episode 22 of The Blacklist AND he was handcuffed to Berlin. I saw the photo of Berlin and it told his name.

Someone at The Blacklist must have contacted the paper because the photo is now only a cropped photo of the hometown guy and the person who plays Berlin's name is now omitted.

I know who plays Berlin. Should I post this as a Spoiler or not?

Jane, that EW recap was great, wasn't it? I'm going to move it over to the Online Links page since it doesn't contain spoilers.

ziji said...

Jane.....I'm trying something new and trying trying trying not to read the spoilers for next week.

That being g said, is Berlin someone that we have met before??

Jane said...

The newspaper re-wrote and took Berlin out of the photo so there is nothing in the link that is now a spoiler.

ziji, I don't recall having seen this person before.

Redravenous said...

Jane I too saw the unedited article this morning on WSJ and the picture with Berlin ( the actor who plays him). He hasn't been on the Blacklist as far as I know and I've watched every episode.

Chompstick, isn't this where we discuss the spoilers? For instance we hear Red say in the preview he has no idea why he is after him.

Chompstick said...

Yes, this is all spoilers, no alerts needed. So anything that comes up elsewhere, like on the ep 21 page we're all on, that deals with spoiler discussion should be brought here. For example, I was just responding to your comments on Slimeguy and I almost said that I hope he doesn't replace Cooper or anyone elses that gets killed. I caught myself though.

Jane, that link is fine to leave in. I misunderstood and thought it gave away the identity of Berlin as someone key on the show. I thought that might be too much of a spoiler for some of us who even like spoilers.

misssissy said...

Jane & everyone... I made a copy of the article with the picture...please let me know how I can get this on the spoiler page or if you want it...Chompster...what do you think?

Jane said...

misssissy, is this the article in the newspaper before they re-wrote it and deleted the person who plays Berlin's name and also his photo?

CES2 said...

How do you think the final would play out ?
- based on the promo , (assuming that they are not playing dirty with us planting scenes that aren’t in the episode) - it looks to me that the confrontation between Red and Tom over Liz comes before Red calls Lizzy about everybody on task force being a target, as in that scene Red has a wound on his left temple.

Red has no temple wound at the start of the confrontation with Tom, we do not know when Red gets injured – maybe Tom shoots him ( graze wound hopefully) during the confrontation , maybe he gets injured later. But it looks to me like Liz escapes unharmed and Tom either gets killed by Red, escapes, or agrees to turn on Berlin.

Personally I do not think Red can get back to working with FBI in Season 2 if Cooper gets killed , so it would be interesting to see what TPTB come up with.
Any suggestions?

BTW it is so good to be home in a place that belongs to us the Cracklisters . Thank you Chompstick!!!

On a lighter note , saw a typo in my previous post on the main board , sorry about that

Chompstick said...

Seriously, please do not tell me you are apologizing for a typo! I'm sure everything I post has a typo, I just don't have time to read over everything.

It does feel great having our own place. I wish we could find BC, though. He's not at WSJ either.

Well, I think you're right about Red and the FBI if Cooper kicks the bucket. There's been talk among us over the past month, perhaps, that Liz might start working with Red more independently from the FBI. It's possible that throughout the season JonBok&Co™ have decided they want Liz to go a bit more rogue so maybe they're killing off some FBI in line with that trajectory. Who knows?

JBiltz said...

The whole FBI team is on that hit list. Aram, Ressler, Cooper, Meera and Liz. Doesn't look good for Cooper, if someone gets behind you in a car with a length of wire around your neck your pretty much finished unless someone intervenes. Aram doesn't have much in the way skills so its pretty grim for him as well.

The WORST possible ending for me would be that photo of Red pointing a gun at Tom while Tom has his gun at Liz and we hear a shot then the series is over!!! Like with Anslo Garrick when we wondered about Dembe. aaargh...

Chompstick said...

I couldn't get it to post and now I'm away from home until this evening. I'll work on it when I get home.

Marie said...

Jane-I feel the same as you. That would be the worst possible ending to the finale-especially since they showed it to us already.
There seems to be some guy in a chair(not sure he is tied to the chair or he is dead or what). by Red right before he pulls the gun on Tom.(Nice gun, Red)

Jane said...

Marie, I think I have not seen all the previews. In fact I have seen only that short one with Red pointing the gun at Tom and Tom with the gun to Liz's head. Have you seen others?

Basil said...

Regarding Nikki as possibly being Tom's wife...there's this from an interview with Ryan (http://www.buzzsugar.com/Ryan-Eggold-Interview-Blacklist-34627217):

•PS: Before his fake brother died, he mentioned something about a woman in Chicago named Nikki . . .

•RE: A wife! I forgot about that, too. He said something about his wife, Nikki. That's going to have to do with Tom – that's not his real name, obviously — his real life.

•PS: So he has a real second life in Chicago, potentially.

•RE: Potentially.

The Blacklist: Will Berlin Be A Season 2 Mystery?
Megan Boone has hinted that the identity of Red’s mysterious enemy might not be fully revealed by the end of the season.
Despite the second part of Monday’s finale going by the title “Berlin: Conclusion”, Boone offers chance that Red’s shadowy counterpart could be around for the serial-procedural’s sophomore season, per TVLine:

Among the show’s other ongoing mysteries, while we might not finally put a face to the nefarious “Berlin” in the closing hour, “You certainly get more of the back of his head, for sure,” Boone quipped.

So it has taken me the better part of (almost) 2 hours but I cannot find the preview I saw on Monday night, here in Canada.

It was very confusing and ever very soon.

But I'm sure I saw Berlin, I am almost sure -though somewhat less sure of this - but I think he had an accent that was not north American.

But this part I am absolutely sure - he said "the only way we could have found red was through Elizabeth Keene. I'm sure it was Berlin because he had his hoody on.

I will keep looking for the clip. But it definitely was not the one that you guys kept describing. I saw that one today. Wow!

Jane said...

Really interesting! Read the comments as they have potential ways the finale will end.

Finale Possibilities

CES2 said...

Fergy @May 9, 9:08 AM

at least it wouldn't be that confronttional scene between Tom, Liz and Red,that scene must fit in somewhere before Red is calls Lizzy ( from his plane?)
to tell her about " everybody "on the task list is a target, as in that scene Red is wounded, no such wound when he confronts Tom.

I hope they leave us with some resolve rather than a cliffhanger, wishful thinking I guess.

I wonder how the dog tasted?

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! No, I'm not, the devil made me do it!!

Chomp, love, I don't dare ask where you'd like me to put this so I'll just leave it and quietly sneak away....

Fluffy said...

Talented writers can create both resolutions and conflicts. I have faith in our writers that they can create both in the finale....because if they don't I will hunt them down one by one and apply the dreaded mark of the Fluff that will taint their careers forever!

(What'eya think, Comps? Too strong? OK, OK, I'll try to lighten up a bit. I have to admit, though, that rumors of Midnight skateboarding in the halls has been leaving me a mite upset.)

Chompstick said...

OMG the dinner and dog! Hahaha. I can't believe no one caught that (myself included) and razzed me yet. They were probably being deferential knowing it's one of your great joys in life to beat me at my own game.

Speaking of games, the roller derby in the north corridor was a smashing (hehe) success. It was Golden Retrievers vs Beagles.

Marie said...

OMG Fluffy! But very funny about how the dog tasted. I think that's more of a Hannibal thing.....I cannot watch that show. I don't think Toto is a "delicacy" for Red.

Redhead said...

So if Red is behind bars and Fitch visits him, how does it get out that Red wants to see Fitch? or vice versa?
Has Fitch ever made an appearance in front of the FBI team? I don't believe so. If that is the case, then how does Fitch go and visit Red without anyone seeing him?
There has been talk that they might not show Berlin in the finale. That they might search all summer for a perfect candidate.
Any thoughts on this?

Fergy said...

Redhead,
If you scroll above to Sam's post 5/8/14 at 12:06 PM you will see that the actor who will play Berlin has already been chosen. His name is Peter Stormare and he is from Sweden. We will see him from the back in the Finale but there is speculation that we won't see his face until next season. Not sure why they did that except to deepen the mystery of who he is? Lucky for us we are all such sleuths that we already figured out who the actor is. LOL!

The picture of Fitch visiting Red in jail. In my personal opinion I think Fitch had a change of heart and came to Red to help him. Against the wishes of his group of associates. I think Fitch knows Red well enough to know that he is not bluffing about the information that he has that will be released when he dies and knows that it will be a disaster if it gets out, whatever it is.

CES2 said...

I'm looking at the promo and I'm really worried about seeing Red wounded ( on his plane?)

How come no one else is worried???
He does not look too good here. :(

Would TPTB have him missing again( if only to give spader more time with Ultron)

Jane said...

CES2, I have only seen one promo and in it Red's forehead is slightly bloody. It is such a close-up that I can't tell where he is. Either they have not released as many promos as before or I have not found them.

CES2 said...

Jane , thanks for noticing

That's the one.

I agree the promo goes fast, but when you stop this promo
at 0.47 wyou will see what I mean.

CES2 said...

Sorry stuffed up the link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSU6VxtoLOo

Jane said...

CES2, the injured Red is at .08. He has a head wound, blood is running down his face. His head is leaning to the side because he is talking on a phone. The window does look like an airplane window.

Red did not have this wound in his confrontation with Tom holding the gun to Liz's head so Red survived and hopefully also Liz without being abducted by Tom.

Thanks for calling attention to this.

CES2 said...

Jane,

Yes, she survives the confrontation with Tom, but the main carnage is still to came - Injured Red is warning Liz that she is in danger and everyone is a target.

So still more danger for both of them

Jane said...

CES2, did you learn this from a preview or a spoiler?

SAM said...

Hi all,
If you get a chance, search - Peter Stormare Images. Looks like he will make a great Berlin character. I hope we see more than the hood Monday.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

CES2 said...

Jane, this is how I see the promo, my interpretation.

The confrontation scene Red , Tom and Liz - no wound on Red's temple as he approaches them

Wounded Red warns Liz about everybody being a target- so hopefully at that moment Liz is ok.

Both writers talk about the carnage, so clearly the carnage is still to come ?

Fergy said...

I just watched the promo and stopped it at .08, Red does appear to have a head wound but it looks like a little dried blood. Not sure if it is an airplane or not. Then they show Liz listening to Red's message and she seems fine at that point.

I froze the picture of the letter with names on it too around .09 and it says:

Elizabeth Keene
Harold Cooper
Donald Ressler
Meera Malik
Aram Mojtabai

It will be interesting to see if they all survive. I am sure Liz and Ressler will unless Diego is tired of playing such a small part in the show and is leaving. Cooper, Meera are a strong possibility but I hope it isn't Aram. That would really suck!

Marie said...

Could they be switching around the chain of events in tomorrow night's finale? So the stand-off with Red and Tom (with gun on Liz) really happens before Red's phone call to Liz? (He looks like he is on a payphone-not a cell).
I think we're going to have to wait to see Berlin until next season.
I hope we get some answers to some questions. And if someone dies, I hope we actually see it happen and be done with it tomorrow night. Not dragged out until next season.

The Song: Pearl Jam, “Just Breathe”
The episode: “Berlin: Conclusion” (122)
The hook: Providing nice symmetry after their song “Pendulum” closed out the midseason finale, Eddie Vedder & Co. imparted some much-needed relief as Monday’s Blacklist came to a close. Liz (Megan Boone) and Red (James Spader) wrapped up their life-threatening pursuit of Berlin (Peter Stormare), and EP Jon Bokenkamp characterized them both as “introspective and resolute — steeling themselves for the daunting road ahead,” with Pearl Jam’s track reflecting the calm after a decision made, the calm before a new storm."

From: http://music-mix.ew.com/2014/05/17/tv-jukebox-may-17-2014/

Emphasis on:
"the daunting road ahead" and "the calm before a new storm"!

What did Red tell Cooper (episode "The Judge")?
"Harold, a war is coming. I believe the incursion of this facility and the rather sudden disappearance of Diane Fowler were just the beginning, and I'm certain that things will get considerably worse before they get better."

It would seem that the war isn't over yet!

The Blacklist Boss Teases Berlin and Answers Burning Questions

Naike said...

Personally, I wouldn't consider the following two posts as spoilers. But as I know that there are very cautious readers visiting the BSG website who prefer to stay away even from teasers, I am going to post them here on the Spoilers page.

First news are still from an interview Megan did at the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo for the national French TV channel "TF 1". In the interview, the interviewer asks Megan (in French) if she can give away any surprises regarding the coming second season of The Blacklist. Megan then says (in English) (I'm paraphrasing): "We are going to see things happen in the relationship between Liz and Red that are even more catastrophic than anything that has happened in season one".

Naike said...

Second news are hot off the press, so to speak. Yesterday (Sunday, 06. July 2014), Axel Schmitt, blogger on the German TV-shows-fan-site serienjunkies.de published a transcript from his interview with Diego when Diego visited Germany after attending the Festival in Monte-Carlo and travelling through Europe.

On the first four pages of the transcript Diego and Axel talk more generic things such as:
— Diego's father's origins are in Bremen, Germany. But Diego doesn't speak German.
— Axel asks Diego to compare his two characters "Mike" on Homeland and "Donald" on The Blacklist. Diego sees one similarity in that both characters have a very clear understanding of what they think is bad and what is good. But that we as viewers see their characters evolving and changing with time. Diego thinks that characters' growth is what the viewers rate as interesting in the series and why they would continue to tune in.
— Diego still knows not really much more about Ressler's past than we viewers have seen in season one of the show. He knows that Ressler had chased Red for five years and that Ressler was part of an elite task force of the FBI and not really much more.
— He thinks that it was right from the show runners' part to focus on the characters of Liz and Red and their relationship in season one, that it was a natural process in establishing a new TV show, it felt organic to Diego.
— When attending the NBC up-fronts in May 2014, Diego had a conversation with Bob Greenblatt (currently the chairman of NBC Entertainment) about how season two would flesh out the characters of the remaining main cast more. Diego says that he and Harry are very much looking forward to it and that they both love to work on The Blacklist.
— Axel asks Diego if he felt affected by Audrey's early demise. Diego says he isn't being paid for his opinion. But he thought that Audrey was a nice character, very likeable, capable. He would have liked if Donald and Audrey would have had more scenes together, but that that is just the way a TV show works. Audrey had to die, so that we as viewers could have more insight into Ressler's character.
— Diego would work on Homeland again in a heartbeat if the show runners would call him back. He loved working on that show and that the crew and cast are fantastic.
— When Diego chooses a project, he tries not to let financial aspects influence his decision, but his feelings for a script and a character leading him. He feels very lucky he got The Blacklist's script and the part of Ressler.
— He's working with a personal manager, an agent in Los Angeles and an agent in Toronto. With the agent in Toronto, they are working together since 14 years. They read the scripts together and they make their decisions together.
— He was the only one the show creators let read for the role of Donald Ressler. He would have loved to have more competition, as he sees competition as a chance to dig further, deeper into the material.
— When Diego was cast, the show creators hadn't cast the role of Liz yet. Diego doesn't remember if they had already cast James anymore. But everyone in Los Angeles and New York had been talking about this hot script for this new TV show and there were several names being tossed around for the principal role. Then everything went down very fast: two weeks before shooting would start, Diego read the script on a Monday, met with the show creators on Tuesday and they shot the screen tests on Thursday. During those few days they finished their contract negotiations with James.
— Diego had never met James and worked with James before. Diego thinks James isn't difficult to work with, that James is a true professional through and through and that James is a professional perfectionist. Diego feels a deep admiration for James.

Naike said...

At this point we are on page five of the transcript of the interview, so that's where the teasers for season two of The Blacklist start, be warned! (Even if we are on the Spoilers page ;o)

— Axel asks Diego if they have already started shooting season two. At the moment Axel conducted this interview with Diego, Diego says they will start shooting season two in six weeks.
— Diego thinks it would be too obvious if Red really was Liz' father. He thinks the writers would be far too smart for the story to turn out this way. Diego reassures us that the writers are going to come back to it. But he, Diego, doesn't know. Diego doesn't see himself as being a particularly smart person, that's why he sees himself ideally as an actor who would be getting a script with written dialogue rather than being a writer.
— This year the writers had twelve weeks instead of seven weeks to work on the scripts during summer hiatus and that they now have much more material to work with.
— They are now casting for season two and they are also casting more internationally and acclaimed actors. Diego has heard rumours that they are also looking for one or two bad guys from Germany. Diego is going to propose the name of the interviewer, Axel Schmitt, as a possible name for a German bad guy on the show, because Diego thinks Axel Schmitt sounds like a perfect name for a James Bond baddie.
— Diego confirms that Berlin is the name of a person on the show. The Blacklist is very successful on the international markets, too, and that is one of the reasons Diego thinks it would be logical to cast more international actors from different countries.
— The writers are also planning on introducing more darker, grim, morbid characters on the show.
— And Diego finishes the interview saying that's all he was allowed to say.

executive producer John Eisendrath (far right) took part in a panel of NBC drama showrunners Sunday (July 13) at the 2014 summer TCA press tour. He fielded several questions about Season 2 of the James Spader-Megan Boone thriller, here are some highlights:

Chompstick said...

Ooh, great spoilers. I'll turn it into an article for next week.

JBiltz said...

Its really the most I've seen them leak.

The DVDs come out next week so there will hopefully be some content there to talk about.

Interesting that they do not have any idea who 1-7 are. I would think #1 would have to be Red's big bad who attacked his family.

Chompstick said...

CES2! In an effort to welcome you back I accidentally deleted your post. I deleted two of mine if it makes you feel any better. Could you please repost?

It's nice to have you back. JB and I are getting lonely holding down the fort.

Thanks for the link. I can't view it on my tablet for some reason so I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning. Are you planning to get the Blu-Ray on Tuesday?

CES2 said...

the computer ate the part of my last sentence "master list of loose ends and story threads"

Chompstick, are you getting the disks? I do not have a Blu Ray player :( Apparently Blu ray has more additional material than DVD , would be interesting to hear from BLSG ( Blacklist Support Group ) members who have the Blu-ray disks.

JBiltz said...

I ordered the BluRay. I doubt it will arrive Tuesday though.

Chompstick said...

I don't have a Blu-ray. I think we're all depending on JBiltz for this one. JB, if you ordered it from Amazon it should arrive on Tuesday. I've preordered things that arrived on their release dates.

JBiltz said...

Not my first dance with them either, I doubt it will be there Tuesday.

Chompstick said...

Well good luck. I'm looking forward to your report.

Chompstick said...

Any luck getting the BluRay, JB?

JBiltz said...

When Amazon did not ship my order yesterday I cancelled the order last night and picked it up at Walmart.

Going to take a few days to work through it. The features that are Bluray exclusive don't seem to be that big a deal. I'm basically watching the special features as they occur on the discs. The making of a pilot doesn't have anything significant that is not covered in the commentary of the first episode. So not much there.

Have not got to the rogues gallery. On the first disc Aram is the only one in the character dossier. The big significant thing there is that Aram is not FBI, he is NSA. Should have guessed that, the FBI is not pro-facial hair.

JBiltz said...

This is not going to be quick getting through the disks. Its Shark Week! Tonight I'll be watching poker as well. Tomorrow my gun shows are on Outdoor channel. After that it will just be Shark Week! and I should make more progress.

Chompstick said...

You're funny. We're in Virginia Beach this week and yesterday we watched a guy come out of the water (on the beach) carrying a 4 foot sand shark. It was dead and had just floated by him.

JBiltz said...

Cooper's dossier was pretty interesting. They pointed out him and Red go way back and that while Cooper seems to be very by the book that is not at all the case. That he has a history and that they plan to get into his history and his history with Red. I'd expect to see more about Cooper this season.

Meera was all stuff we have seen before. Nothing new there.

Chompstick said...

I've been interested in finding out more about Cooper ever since the pilot, I think, when it was pointed out that there is a history between Red and Cooper. I've felt there is something dark in his history, which will certainly make the character more multi-dimensional and interesting, rather than just being there because someone has to be the boss.

I can't wait to hear if they hint at something in Ressler's past. I know my pet theory about Red and Ressler is not popular, but we all have our fantasy speculations.

JBiltz said...

Sorry nothing mentioned about a dark past for Ressler. They mentioned they want to do more with Ressler but but there is only so much time. Mention was made of fan demand for a Ressler Liz romance but they said that is not going to happen this season but its not impossible. One big thing that was also mentioned in the commentary of Anslo Garick was that they really really wanted Ressler to lose his leg. But there was resistance to the idea because he was action guy.

I'm on the third of five disks now. The first two disks had five episodes and a commentary on each disk. So four hours of viewing. The last disks have four episodes and the only commentary is Berlin. So less than 3 hours viewing per disk.

The only character dossiers remaining are Tom, Liz and Red. The rogues gallery was sort of disappointing. It was basically a few clips for most of the villains. Nothing to worry about missing.

The commentaries so far were good. The two show runners and Joe Carnahan the writer director for both of them. No actors. The DVDs should have the commentaries. Around episode 8 they said they were concerned because Red was not personally deadly enough. So that was to be established in Anslo and the carnage of Red's search in the Good Samaritan.

Chompstick said...

Well they certainly brought out the deadly side of Red in the Good Samaritan! Part way into the season, JonBok said they weren't sure what direction they were going to take Tom in, i.e. good or bad. I kind of find that hard to believe, but maybe they did vacillate because of fan reaction. I wonder if that will be addressed. That's a lot of tv you have to watch, between Shark Week episodes, of course.

JBiltz said...

Well fortunately I finished a series of books Monday night so my reading is on hold now. I'm retired so I have time. Bunch of errands I had to do this week though. He said they knew Tom was going to be bad from the pilot on.

Charmed said...

Happy Birthday Chompstick! (Yesterday!)

I'm sorry I couldn't do my little announcement yesterday,
But you've worked so hard, celebrate all week, all month if you want too. We will help!

Hi JBiltz and CES2- I hope you have both been well.

Chompstick said...

JB - yes that makes the most sense. What I heard must have been another attempt on his part to mislead us.

What do you like to read?

JBiltz said...

Mostly military science fiction, science fiction in general to a lesser degree, very little fantasy. A couple of select mystery writers, most mystery doesn't interest me.

Charmed said...

Did you ever read "Eye of the Needle" by Ken Follett?
It was an impressive book in many ways. I consider it my spy/military fiction debut.
I read it probably 35 years ago. Spooky thought.

JBiltz said...

I probably did, it sounds familiar, but it was a long time ago. I used to read a lot of spy stuff. Once the cold war ended I pretty much stopped.

JBiltz said...

Nothing really came out of Liz and Red's dossiers. Red's was very entertaining though.

On the final disk! Should be done in a few hours.

Chompstick said...

Have you had time to sleep at all?

Since you enjoy science fiction, would you like to see that kind of direction explored in BL? Some people have mentioned possible scenarios involving Liz's past with DNA and microchips or something, I can't remember. (It is not something I would like.)

CES2 said...

JBiltz wrote
[On the final disk! Should be done in a few hours].

There are posts floating on the internet (Tumblr) regarding commentaries on the disks.

I'm looking forward to reading your take.

JBiltz said...

The commentaries are on the DVDs as well. If they are like the Bluerays they are tucked away in the select episode menu. If you hit play all you will not see them.

If some people want to talk about them I'm certainly willing but I don't intend to list every comment made. I will say there are no actor comments its all Joe Carnahan and the two Jons. A lot of comments on how good Spader is and his process.

I will say the commentaries are as good as any I've seen with the possible exception of some of the ones from Breaking Bad but some of them were funnier than a lot of TV shows. Hudson does get mentioned.

I don't sleep a lot.

No, I do not want this to go science fiction.

CES2 said...

To watch DVDs I have to wait for an Australian release ( 28th August I think).

I find it interesting how they keep parallel timelines- when a lot of the viewers originally assumed that it was due to lack of attention to detail.

Personally I see it as keeping the misdirection threads open.

Basil, good to have you back. I hope you're feeling well.

You were close on the http link above, but not quite. You didn't have the entire web address including the http right after the first quotation mark, and you didn't have a second quotation mark after the web address, before the >. The correct link is here:

Cartermatt article

I'm very glad they're giving Liz an edgier look. I don't know why they didn't go with Megan's short hair last season (the wig made her a bit too wishy washy, in my opinion). But presumably the wig is gone this year (and hopefully the pant suits). Her own hair will provide a good transformation to a harder Liz.

Hello Everyone! I have had a hectic crazy summer so far....beautiful weather too. I have never seen so many days below 100 for the month of August in Phoenix AZ in the 16 years that I have lived here.

4 more weeks to the premier! I am going to watch the pilot and then Berlin back to back to see the contrast in Liz's life.

Chomps, I think the long hair on Liz was to make her look more innocent and naive. With all that she has gone through in season one her real hair will make her much less prissy and more kick ass and take names edgy.

I am really glad that this season will reveal more about Liz and Red's past, in particular their families. My guess is the young girl that has been cast will be used in memory flashbacks of Liz's past. She looks just like a younger version of Liz.

Hope you all had a great summer and are ready to feed your addiction in 4 weeks.

JBiltz said...

Hey Fergy, I live in Phoenix also. It has been a very cool summer for Phoenix particularly August.

C Fergy said...

JBlitz, I had no idea you lived in Phoenix. I live in the east valley at the foot of the Superstition Mountains. I have been here for 16 years and have never seen such a mild summer. Not that I am complaining because I certainly am not. In the 80's in August, who would have thunk it right?

Thanks for the editorial on the season one blu-ray set. I might have to go get it now. :-)

JBiltz said...

I'm way over on the west side. About 2 miles from the Cardinals stadium.

C Fergy said...

JBlitz, we might as well be in different states right? LOL! I think the Cardinal Stadium is like 75 miles from my house. It is incredible how much the valley has grown since I moved here.

4 weeks tonight folks....I can't wait!

JBiltz said...

Its a tough 75 miles too. Traffic the whole way.

SPOILER ALERT for Season 2:

The Blacklist recruits Paul Reubens for a guest arc on its upcoming second season.

Paul Reubens has been cast as Mr. Vargas, a dapper, finicky “muscle” who handles delicate situations in the criminal underworld.

Expect for Reubens to make his Blacklist debut on episode 3 of season 2.

You are very welcome ladies. I have been dying for anything New Reddington, so I have been scouring the internet and came across the clip. I honestly am counting down the weeks. Every Monday I say, 4 more weeks to The Blacklist, 3 more weeks etc. I have been watching previous episodes too.

I watched Anslo Garrick again this week and realized that Cooper told Diane "The lab called and the blood test confirmed it was Reddingtons". So I wondered if Liz had the blood tested to see if her DNA matched and that is why she asked him if he was her father. hmmmm? :-)

Chompstick said...

Fergy, Marie, BL Fan (good to see you all) -
thanks so much for staying on top of the spoilers. That used to be Naike's forte, but as you probably know, she's been busy with the tragic flooding that affected her family's home. Hi Naike if you happen to be reading! I've been composing posts for the front page but ya'll keep beating me to the punch (which is great)!

There's a great Blacklist full-page ad on the back of this week's People magazine, made to look like a magazine cover. The same kind of pages have been on the Blacklist Facebook page, as well. A story on the ads appears in the current Variety. Looks like NBC is putting a ton of ad dollars into the show - yay!

Chompstick said...

I finally got a new post up on the front page with many of these video clips compiled. Thanks everyone.

Carolina Girl said...

Hey everyone ... Back to say that I am beyond excited and anxiously awaiting the season premier. Thanks for all the new info and just wanted to say to Fergy that I have said before that I think Liz had Red bloods tested for DNA after she picked up the sample in the road. She may or may not have had the results back when she asked him if he was her father at the end of Anslo Garrick, but my feeling has always been that she came back to Red because she knows.

C Fergy said...

Carolina Girl, from what they said at Comic Con this year, they are not going to answer that question until the last episode and when they do it will all make sense. So he either is her father or for some unknown reason has paternal instincts for her. But I agree, she already knows.

Carolina Girl said...

It is sure going to be along 6 more years, Fergy ....uhggggg :(

Well, it won't be long now until we begin again. I may go buy a big 'ole box of Moon Pies today to have ready for the celebration. Oh how I wish the premier was 2 hours long !!!

C Fergy said...

Well Carolina Girl, I think in the meantime we can just believe what we want then. If the show runners and writers continue to do a great job it may be more than 6 years before we know the truth. Greys Anatomy is in the 11th year and some people never thought it would last 5. The Blacklist is Wayyyyy better than Greys Anatomy.

Only 15 more days......sounds so much closer than 2 weeks and 1 day. LOL!

Carolina Girl said...

I know one thing for sure, Fergy ... 11 years is a crazy amount of time to make us wait !!!

Basil said...

Hello all.....awhile ago I posted something on the spoilers page which I thought was kinda big stuff regarding Red and what we learn about him this season..if it is true. Don't want to say too much and have the info appear on the new posts sections... But check out my comment from 8/21/14 at 2:18. Can this be true? We'll find out this stuff about Red? Drat...how do we manage the fact that comments on the spoiler page can still be seen on the new comments section. What about using the old spoiler alert right off the top....that way people will know to avoid that comment.

Carolina Girl said...

Hi Basil .... So glad you brought this to our attention. I did not see this when you posted it. I haven't been on here.
So, Red and wife were divorced and had a daughter ...
We all got 1/2 right!!! That explains the new cast members and who is who. Hmmmmmm.... Curious now as to who the hostage could be???

Chompstick said...

Basil, I'm glad you pointed out that the spoilers would appear on the new comments list. That never occurred to me. How about at the top of any spoiler post (which can still only be on the spoilers page) we just put the one word in all caps SPOILER. I'll put an explanation at the top of the spoiler page and on the FAQ page. At the beginning of the season I'm going to make a welcome back post and include some of the newer features, like the new comments column, which may have appeared after some folks left.

More on the spoiler tomorrow. Too tired!

SPOILERS
More casting news from Unreality TV

"First up, it’s been announced that David Fonteno, who will be known to fans of The Good Wife, will appear in the second season according to EW. The character named Senator Sheridan is classed as a southern gentleman and he runs the black budget for the US government, alongside being a longtime friend of Agent Cooper."

"Episode five will introduce a character named Glen a “diminutive DMV wonk” with a long history with Reddington." As of now, the actor playing Glen has not been identified.

"Meet your next Blacklister in David Costabile, who is known for his role in Suits and of course Breaking Bad. The actor will tackle the role of Dr Linus Creel, who is a psychiatrist with what is described as a clinical curiosity and he spends a lot of time hanging around various psych wards."

"Another connection to Red’s past will be a woman called Zoe, who is described as 'a worn but pretty' character." Could this be Krysten Ritter's character?

Also, I read today that Mary-Louise Parker's character, Naomi Hyland, is married and living with her husband, a fact that could impact speculation about who Naomi is.

Hi-

Chompstick said...

Hi Marie,

The magazines whose covers appear on Google images - not to mention a HUGE Times Square billboard - are Time, GQ, Rolling Stone, Playboy, Wired, Vanity Fair, and The New Yorker. My thinking is that the others might not have been released yet if they haven't appeared elsewhere, but my logic might be wrong. Happy shopping! They are great ads, aren't they? Would you be purchasing all 8 of those above???

Marie said...

Hi Chomps-
I looked it up and the article says August and September issues. I guess I will have to go to the library and see which issues and then I can go buy whatever is still out. I don't think I will get all, maybe one or two. I like the "Code Red" one.

Chompstick said...

Episode 2 title has been announced: Monarch Douglas Bank. This marks only the second time the blacklister has not been an individual (the other was The Cyprus Agency).

A new member joins the dream team in this episode, too. Hmm, might it be Mozhan Marnò, cast as a former Mossad agent Tamar Katzman? Read more about her and other new cast members in the Season 2 News article on The Blacklist Support Group's front page.

Marie said...

That's interesting...a bank and not a person. Hmmmm.

I went to the library and the only issue of any magazine with "Red"-Spader on the back cover is People magazine with Angelina Jolie on the cover (for getting married). I checked all the other mags.-current issues and back issues-back to the beginning of August. So I guess the magazine issues are not out yet.

Marie said...

Variety.com said 11 magazines will have the back cover as an ad for "The Blacklist' starting next week. Playboy is the only one that will actually have The Blacklist/Red on its cover-next Tuesday.

Marie said...

Call me crazy but here is what I did at the checkout at the grocery store. They had the PEOPLE mag. with Angelina and RED on the back cover. So I took all of the mags. and turned them around so Red was looking at you. So there were 6 copies of the mag with Red looking at you. Time to watch "The Blacklist" people! LOL

Chompstick said...

That is too funny! You are a true Blacklist (and moon pie) fan, Marie.

Charmed said...

I am going to go to Barnes & Noble this week and see what other mags. are out. I can turn those round too but those people are on the ball and will have them turned back pretty fast.

I am so ready for "The Blacklist". I keep seeing the ads and it's driving me nuts.

7 Days Away!! I can't believe it's so close.

I posted a long article on the front page this morning that contains lots of general information from John Eisendrath regarding season 2. I compiled parts of several interviews he gave over the summer. Although nothing significant is given away, I have marked it as a spoiler since it does discuss future happenings.

And if you've missed it, I have posted several other articles over the past month or so concerning the upcoming season, in particular casting news.

Enjoy!

Marie said...

Thanks, Chomps!

JBiltz said...

"This is great news to my ears. Adding depth to Cooper and Ressler will add a much needed complexity to these characters. As it stands, Cooper is so one dimensional that he is almost unappealing. There's no direct mention of Mr. Kaplan, but we can hope can't we? I think we're all itching for some background into her relationship with Red."

The thing is realistically Cooper is on the show more than he should be. The Assistant Director of the FBI for anti-terrorism really has too much going on to be sitting on top of the task force on a full time basis. He'd probably be living on anti-acids also. That is a very stressful job.

Chompstick said...

Realistically, yes, I agree. But when is Hollywood completely realistic? We currently only have three fleshed out characters - Liz, Red, Tom - so I welcome the idea of having others that we actually feel invested in. Viewers want characters to either love or hate, not feel apathetic about. At the end of last season most of us didn't care either way if Cooper or Malik were axed.

Chompstick said...

New spoilers:

The 3rd episode name is "Dr. James Covington", and I previously mentioned that the 2nd episode is named "Monarch Douglas Bank".

Also, something that I'm psyched about -
The episode airing after the Superbowl, which is the first episode after the 2 month break, is being written and directed by Joe Carnahan. Carnahan wrote and directed the season 1 pilot, Anslo Garrick 1, and wrote Mako Tanida, three of my favorite episodes.

Chompstick said...

Question - are y'all reading the articles on the front/home page? I've been putting lots of spoilers on there and with the start of the season I will have reminders and announcements about the blog (nothing big but should be read).

JBiltz said...

I've been reading them.

Chompstick said...

Good, glad to hear it. I just want make sure there's an interest in them. Although it later occurred to me that the two or three people currently here do not make for a very large sample size. lol

JB, I'd also like to say that it has been a pleasure discussing the show with you all summer, and I truly appreciate that you have helped keep this place alive while we wait for the new season. Same goes out to those others who have been here.

Chompstick said...

JBiltz, this totally isn't the right place for this comment, but I know you'll see it here.

Would you mind updating your timeline on The Timeline page the best you can, before season 2 begins? It's a great resource that I'm sure many readers appreciate. Thanks!

JBiltz said...

FYI - In the morning (well, later in the morning ... It's 3:24am and I can't sleep) I will be opening a new page for the new episode so we can move our discussion over there. Also look for a new post on the front page with new information about the blog.

16½ hours!

The Lord Baltimore, Episode 1, page is now posted.

We've all, myself included, been a bit relaxed over where we've posted things this summer. With so few of us here, it made more sense sometimes to post things together. So just a reminder now that S2 is starting, we need to be diligent about posting on the correct pages.

Thanks!

Chompstick- HELP PLEASE! When I clicked on the link leading to articles, it led to my gmail account and it seemed like I was in a blog. I have two other accounts and they have both become inaccessible by Safari now, which is a real pain.

The link you fixed works correctly now but do you have any idea how I can access my other accounts? I have tried EVERYTHING which Google Help suggests.

Signed, Sad Janie

Janie,

I'm sorry you're having problems. I haven't encountered something like this before so I'm guessing it's specific to your accounts. I am going to be up all night writing my recap, so unfortunately not going to have time look into it further tonight.

For now, you should be able to post comments by clicking on "name/url" and entering your name there.

There is already a synopsis out on episode 4.

Chompstick said...

What is the link for that, Marie?

How about this little tidbit from the upcoming Linus Creel Episode:

"Elsewhere, Red tries to convince, Naomi and her husband into accepting a complicated proposition."

Spoiler:

SPOILER

I wonder - Red told Lizzy at least twice in previous episodes that he offers a "dissapeariance " deal to his clients , perhaps this is the "complicated proposition " mentioned in ep 4 ?

Rori said...

Now I can't remember if what I am giddy about happened at the end of this episode or in the preview for Ep. 4! But it was Red and Naomi face to face saying "You look so different!"
I am going to go back at some point and find my comments from the WSJ blog last season, but I was promoting the idea that Red is not Red...that he is someone else made to look like Reddington.
I can't tie it all together, but at least SOMETHING about their reactions to one another has to do, IMO, with some major alteration in his/their physicality that is not just a comment about aging.

Charmed said...

I remember us discussing this before, Rori. It will be interesting to see what you wrote at that time. It was always good, you know.

Rori said...

THANK YOU, Charmed!
I posted it back on the Episode page, since it happened in this episode.
...wonder what happened to Ziji--looking at the WSJ made me think about her...and some other "pals" from last season.

Chompstick said...

Rori, I was thinking it might be simpler, that he is the real Red but had major plastic surgery to completely disguise his appearance for safety. Same with Naomi.

ziji won't be returning; she has a busy life and had to cut something out. :( Maybe the others will trickle back. I can't imagine going cold turkey on a Blacklist addiction.

Thanks for being part of what makes BSG special, Rori.
